JOHN Howard has singled out Muslim migrants for refusing to embrace Australian values and urged them to fully integrate by treating women as equals and learning to speak English.
The call for a shift in attitude among some Muslims infuriated community leaders last night, and comes as The Australian can reveal the Prime Minister's own Islamic advisers have already accused Mr Howard and senior ministers of fuelling hatred and mistrust by using "inflammatory and derogatory" language.
Mr Howard said: "There is a section, a small section of the Islamic population, and I say a small section ... which is very resistant to integration.
"Fully integrating means accepting Australian values, it means learning as rapidly as you can the English language if you don't already speak it," the Prime Minister said during a radio talkback discussion.
"And it means understanding that in certain areas, such as the equality of men and women ... people who come from societies where women are treated in an inferior fashion have got to learn very quickly that that is not the case in Australia."
The comments prompted a fierce reaction from young female Islamic leader Iktimal Hage-Ali, a member of the Prime Minister's advisory group. She accused Mr Howard of threatening to further marginalise Muslims. "There's no value in pointing out the minority of the Muslim group," she said.

Prime Minister Howard "gets it."
I feel like moving to Australia. USA is a lost cause.
DITTO
a wonderful place it is.
just kidding!!!
Maybe this will spread to the rest of the Western Democracies and even into the US Democratic Party.
I knew you were kidding....LOL
the French will be a muslim nation soon because they refuse to face the fact that muslims DO NOT ASSIMULATE

So it is racists hatespeech to tell foreign immigrants that want to live in your country for a better life to adopt the values and culture of which they sought when immigrating?
You mean, they want a better life in your country but still want to enjoy all the customs and values of the nation they left that made their lives miserable to begin with?
I get it. They hated the place they left so much that the want to come to your country and create the same. To hell with adopting the lifestyle of free people in economic and social heaven. What you want is to be a citizen of a country that won't have you executed for bending the rules you don't like.
Sure, bring your hatred and disdain for my country with you when you relocate your family here in the puruit of happiness. Be free and happy while you bash my nation which has taken you in. Go ahead, hate the heritage that has been afforded us (and now you) by a million brave heros, sacrificed, for your pursuit of happiness in our free nation.
Welcome to Freedom, where ever you find!!!!
But it's only the Muslims that are blowing things up. You're marginalizing yourselves you twit. How about denouncing the jihadist violence instead?
...crickets...
'Might we borrow your Prime Minister..'
my thought exactly. Smart, brave man, Mr. Howard. Many of our Congresspeople/Senators could learn from him.
God bless Mr. Howard and Australia for their friendship to America.
He would have provoked an even greater uproar if he had dared to tell them that gang rape is not tolerated in Australia. You would have had legions of Muslims complaining that gang rape of infidels is an ancient tradition in Muslim countries, and it is a cherished part of their culture which should be off limits from discussion...
I think it would be funnier John Howard told Muslims to convert to another religion or be killed. Turn the tables.
As has been noted previously, if they don't like it, they can "clear off."
WOW. Can they export Howard to the US for 4 years?
yes

Absolutely. Australia is one of the most beautiful countries I've visited during my travels and they seem to have government that has brains. US is corrupt and no matter which way you vote, it produces the exact same result.
I'd rather move than have to learn Spanish so I can buy a piece of bread in the store.
