If you are suggesting there is a chance his story is made up and his injuries was the result of some other sort of altercation, I have thought about the same thing. Drug deal gone bad or something and he made up the story to keep him self out of trouble. That is a possibility and I'm sure the police will investigate that angle. I would hate to think there are people in this country with so much hate for the military that they would do something like this, but it does happen and the Pacific Northwest is filled with some of the most radical hate-filled leftist in America. Hopefully the police can get to the bottom of this.
