I'm still lost. Are you talking 5 points behind Harris in the polls, or 5 points behind Nelson? And the logic is still, to me, missing. If you believe that Harris can't beat Nelson, but has the best name recognition in the state (as other polls indicate), how will voting for McBride, who has little name recognition and (to the best of my knowledge) no political experience, change the dynamics of the election?

If you want to vote for McBride because you think he will be a better Senator and has political policies and agendas with which you agree, that's an entirely different issue than just voting for McBride because he, basically, isn't Harris.
