Back in the late 70's when I read Herman Wouks The Winds of War, I thought back than that if they made a movie of this, Glenn Ford would be perfect as the main protaganist - the Captain. I was disappointed when they pegged Robert Mitchum for the role in the 80's mini-series. I have nothing against Mitchum, I just thought Ford would be better.

I didn't see the mini seris, though I did read the books. Yes, Ford would have done well as that character.
