Iraq invasion subverts fight against terrorism: Carter

LONDON, Aug 27 (Xinhua) -- Former U.S. president Jimmy Carter said the Iraq invasion had subverted the fight against terrorism and instead strengthened al-Qaeda and the recruitment of terrorists, according to a British paper report on Sunday.

In an exclusive interview with The Sunday Telegraph newspaper, Carter said that if he had still been president, he would never have considered invading Iraq in 2003.

"However, I wouldn't have excluded going into Afghanistan, because I think we had to strike at Al-Qaeda and its leadership," he said.

"But then, to a major degree, we abandoned the anti-terrorist effort and went almost unilaterally with the Great Britain into Iraq," he said.

"My own personal opinion is that the Iraqi people are not better off as a result of the invasion and people in America and the Great Britain are not safer," he added.

Carter, 81, was the 39th U.S. president, from 1977 to 1981, and the winner of the 2002 Nobel Peace Prize.

"We now have a situation where America is so unpopular overseas that even in countries like Egypt and Jordan, our approval ratings are less than five percent," he said, "It is a shameful and pitiful state of affairs."

Jimmuh can't make a profit on the UN's food-for-oil scam any more?

The man is delerious. He's 81 years old and should realize he's not thinking straight.

Jimmy's son, Jack, is running for senate in Nevada as a dem, naturally. He said it was okay for Israel to defend herself. Jimmy said No. Otherwise they're probably two peas in a pod. Nevadans should make sure Jack never gets to DC.

"Former U.S. president Jimmy Carter said the Iraq invasion had subverted the fight against terrorism and instead strengthened al-Qaeda and the recruitment of terrorists"

Translation: Iraq has nothing to do with terrorism. And the longer we stay there, the more terrorists we create.

He's right. We should try to be friendlier to the people we're trying to kill.

For many years I have rated LBJ as the worst president in my lifetime (born in 1947). But the longer this clod lives and the more he continues to yap the more I come to think that Peanut may well deserve that rating. Certainly he is the absolute worst ex-president in the history of the nation.

And to think this dumb f*** was commander of a nuclear sub. Ugh.

That pathetic POS was NEVER a commander of a nuclear powered sub for even 5 minutes. He was assigned to a sub, and got some higher education in nuclear propulsion, but even Rickover reportedly held Carter in contempt after he slipped under the door at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in January '77.

"However, I wouldn't have excluded going into Afghanistan, because I think we had to strike at Al-Qaeda and its leadership,"

And that in his mind would have ended terrorism? Bwa ha ha ha! Earth to Peanut boy, there is a cancer in the middle east that has been going on even when you were head Peanut, you know, remember them 444 days? This is a war on terror Jimmy, not just a war on Al-Qaeda. Maybe you should ask your good buddy Ahmadinejad just who is doing all they can to ensure that terror wins.
