LAS VEGAS, Nevada (CNN) -- A paper license tag, a salad and stories that didn't make sense pricked the suspicions of a state trooper who stopped the car of a wanted fugitive polygamist in Las Vegas.

But it was the pumping carotid artery in the neck of Warren Steed Jeffs that convinced Nevada Highway Patrolman Eddie Dutchover that he had cornered someone big.

Of course I remember. I talked to an ATF guy just after that. That raid went down because the deputy director of the BATF was trying to save the BATF from being absorbed by the FBI at the time. Tried to make it look like they weren't a bunch of geeky beauracrats (which they pretty much were). Nobody in LE liked them, hell, they didn't even like themselves. They got a bunch of people killed for their efforts. Neither side was "the good guys" in that one.

My perspective on FLDS is that it is a cult, based on one very nutty (but smart and devious)guy. Who passes out rewards to his "faithful" followers and either dumps or wacks the culls, i.e. anyone who starts to look like their thinking for themselves. I have first -hand (that is not I heard from my brother-in-law who knows somebody who heard...) knowledge. These are pernicious, evil, nasty white slavers who brainwash their young, practice all kinds of nasty things and engage in systematic welfare fraud for the benefit of Warren Jeffs.

BTW I didn't say anything about you being Mormon. I have nothing against Mormons of the mainstream variety.

I was watching Shep Smith last night - I know, I know, I shouldn't but I was - and when he was reporting on this story, he kept on saying the guy would arrange marriages with young girls and older women. At first, I thought it was a slip of the tongue but he said the same thing a couple more times. Then he cut to a reporterette at the scene and she said it correctly - young girls and older men. Later, when Shep rehashed it, he said it correctly.

Off the subject but man, is he a whiney little baby or what! He kept on crying about New Orleans and Katrina last night it about made me want to barf! Enough already! I'm tired of Katrina!

Solomon was King of a very rich and powerful country.. Foreign Potentates then gave daughters as gifts and political gambits to more powerful rules.. Turning them down was an insult.. It was politics then as now..

At least, this was "the line" he gave all his other wives. Seemed to work pretty good then, placing this into the political category versus the family, romantic. etc. umbrella.

But in the end, the only people with the polygamist leader when he was captured were his brother and one of his wives, Naomi Jeffs. They were released without charges.
