"Israel may be gone but so will all of the Middle East."

You have to assume that Israel will get a chance to shoot something out of the sky.

My issue with all this is why wouldn't Iran fire a weapon?

1. With its present political structure, Israel will not retaliate with nukes and conventional weapons won't do anything.

2. Any attacks on the oil fields will create a global economic nightmare. Also, Iran will threaten destruction of the fields if Israel does attack.

3. American politicians will order restraint, from the left because they are cowards and from the right because the left will call them war mongers.

The way I see it, Iran will fire off a nuke as soon as they get it because they are in a no lose position and have the backing of Russia, China, the UN and the American left. If I were in Irans position, kiss TelAviv goodbye.

I figured this would happen. I think they are going to push this until late November after the mid-terms.

If Iran destroys its oil firlds, their GDP will disappear. What are they going to export besides Persian carpets and sand?

Jerry Springer said on the radio this morning that we need to get out of Iraq and let the UN take over, just like they are doing in Lebanon. Now this story.

You can't make this stuff up.

It will hold off until Europe is occupied. Then they will say "gee - we dont like being forced to be Muslim, time for us to start an uprising."

"If Iran destroys its oil firlds, their GDP will disappear."

Perhaps they'll go the way of NK and get into the weapons business - but with a fanatic terrorist twist...

In response to this post, and in response to news that the UNIFIL actually cataloged every Israeli move to the benefit of terrorist organizations during the failed "return our kidnapped soldiers" conflict, I wondered how much money we are contributing to the UN's operation. All I could find were figures for 2003 and 2004:

U.S. Participation in the United Nations: Financial Contributions

U.S. contributions to the UN system in 2004 were well over $3 billion

Does anyone happen to know how much money we're spending on this farcical organization?

I can think of a few things worth spending several billion dollars on, and the UN isn't one of them.

"In the meantime, U.N. is too preoccupied congratuling itself on empty accomplishments and beating up on Israel. They're secretly happy about Iran because they want Iran to nuke Israel."

True.

"The U.N. Security Council will need until mid-September before acting on its threat to punish Iran.."

This should read, "The U.N. Security Council will need until mid-September before NOT acting on its threat to punish Iran. "
