Art is in the eye of the beholder. Critics often choose to "control" what art is the way "diamonds" are controlled.
Kinkade obviously connects with a lot of people. Since art is about communication, it seems to be doing well now, even if it doesn't connect with me personally. But Rockwell does...and he is widely derided (although less so now). It will be interesting to see if Kinkade's work continues to connect with future generations.

The first and every time I hear Kinkade's name is from people saying "hey look at this Kinkade painting, he's a Christian" or "lets go into the Kinkade store, he's a Christian". I about gag every time. I think to many people buy his stuff solely because his is a "Christian" then the quality of his art.
