This was by far the worst case of news reporting in the history of this country.

And the most successful propaganda campaign of our time. The federal response to Katrina was massive and quite heroic. Hundreds of lives were saved by extraordinary efforts, many rescuers risking their own lives in the process. The historical corruption and stupidity of local officials was a hindrance, but by and large, once the Feds got in, they handled the emergency quite well.

Now, billions of dollars are being sucked up by crooked La. officials and the grifters who have punched their Katrina ticket for a lifetime on the Federal dole.

Despite all of these facts, the media was able to create a 'universal truth' that the government's response was lame, inept and racist.

Yep, the most successful propaganda campaign of our time. To this day, I blame the Bush Administration for failing to properly confront the media blitz. The day the first administration official gave the slightest credence to some 'shortcoming' in the response, the publicity war was lost.
