RIO GRANDE CITY -- Border Patrol agents caught a Mexican man wanted in a 2002 homicide shortly after he attempted to sneak back into the United States, Customs and Border Protection said today. ADVERTISEMENT Click to learn more...
Valentin Mata Nunez, 28, was identified by fingerprints as a fugitive in an Edinburg homicide, CBP spokesman Roy Cervantes said.
Cervantes said Mata and another man activated a Border Patrol sensor as they walked from the banks of the Rio Grande at about noon Sunday. The fingerprint scan turned up warrants for Nunez in the homicide case as well as for an automobile theft in McAllen.
The other man did not have warrants out for him, Cervantes said.
Mata was taken into the custody of the Edinburg police department.
Good catch. I wonder what happened to the other one.
I'm surprised and tickled beyond belief that they even did a fingerprint scan before they just put him back on the other side of the border.
He's wanted for murder here and he comes back anyway???? What an idiot.
It's an example of how little American law enforcement and national politicians are feared.
Try him and fry him.
Exactly, the border enforcement is a joke. He had no reason to think he would get caught.
Hey, he was just doing the murdering and stealing that Americans won't do. The guy is dumb as a rock to try to come back into the country.
Unless he is wanted for more murders in Mexico. Here, he has to figure that he gets free counsel, free meals, free medical care, and free TV for life. In Mexico, they just throw you in a hole and forget about you.
Perhaps no so much of one ... I don't know for sure, but from what I've learned in the last year or so ... Our immagration system and department was pretty much non-existant. Couple that with an overloaded criminal system ...
I'm just thankful people are waking up these days.
Exactly.. there are much worse things than a sentance of life in prison in the United States.. much worse..
ping
Rio Grande Ping!
Like most of them, he just jumped on the Bush Border Revolving Door bandwagon.
Do you think we could build a "star wars" defense system that would shoot down ILLEGAL ALIENS crossing the border? Discuss.
