"So of course we had to hit the gun show and pick up a Remington 1100 (a longer, heavier shotgun but the best I could do - hard to find an 11-48 at a reasonable price any more) in Light 20 with a Cutts compensator and removable chokes on a short barrel . "

If you keep checking GunBroker.com regularly, I'm sure you can find a 11-48 in any gauge you want. They are a auction site and have thousands of guns on any given day.

I've seen lots of 1148's there in the past 3 weeks.

I think you could find any gun you want there in a very short time.

Hey, thanks for the tip. Didn't know about that site.

I've always been leery though of buying a firearm at long distance. I like to have it in my hands and work it a few times before I close the deal. Not that there's much that can go wrong with a Remington shotgun (except some of those early tang safeties), but it still feels funny.
