we should be able to enforce basic rules of behavior while on board
an airplane in flight
I know it's a pain-in-the-@$$, but the recent spate of delays,
flight detainments and diversions are a GOOD thing.
It's telegraphing to the terrorists and even the "civil disobedience"
types that making a scene will at least get you detained awhile
and scrutinized a bit.
If anything, I suspect this is ticking off the Jihadis that really
do want to do damage.
The crew AND passengers are on such a hair-trigger that all
threats (real or assumed) are getting smacked down.
A pain-in-the@$$? Yes. But it's a low-cost part of being at war
with a domineering bunch of jerks that have been on the warpath
since the fifth century AD.

You're right! Bring 'em on and smack em' down. Zero tolerance time. If it works in schools, it sure should work on airlines.
