MCCAIN STATEMENT ON WAR IN IRAQ
For Immediate Release
Friday, Aug 25, 2006
Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator John McCain released the following statement on the war in Iraq:
“I agreed with the President’s difficult decision to go to war in Iraq. I remain fully supportive of his determination not to leave Iraq until the freely elected government of that country and its armed forces are able to defend their country from foreign and domestic enemies intent on thwarting the will of the Iraqi people to create a civil society in which the rights and security of all Iraqis are protected.
“I have often emphasized the importance of leveling with the American people about the high costs and many difficulties of the mission, the potentially calamitous consequences of failure and the many benefits of success, as the President has also frequently stressed. But I have never intended my concern that the American public be fully informed about the conduct and consequences of the war to indicate any lessening of my support for our mission there. On the contrary, I view a candid, informed public discussion of the war as critical to sustaining popular support for the war and, thus, indispensable to ensuring the ultimate success of our mission.
And I commend the President for his public statements offering Americans an honest assessment of the progress we have made in Iraq and the challenges that still confront us there, and, of course, for his determination to defend American security and international peace and stability by succeeding in this arduous and costly enterprise.”
It worked fine as we never lost one single battle...in fact, it worked until Nixon's "Vietnamization" of the war, when we turned the fighting roles over to inexperienced and incompetent RVN forces who proved immediately they were incapable of stopping the NVA. Had we followed "more boots on the ground" and not lost the will because of the ongoing demonstrations we'd have the capitol of a united Vietnam in "Saigon" instead of Hanoi and there would be no such place called "Ho Chi Mihn City"!
At times it appears I have an at times stutter.
He would sell YOU out in a heartbeat if he thought he could get good press out of it.
'Boots on the ground" often translates into" butts in chairs" when one is talking about something as bureaucratic as the Army. Of the 500,000 in Vietnam, around 50,000 were engaged directly with the enemy.
Looks like I wasn't the only one that called him. Like I said, McCain doesn't have an ounce of courage of conviction to stick to his guns and say what he really means.
ROTFLOL!!! He just flipped-flopped on this ONE issue alone in LESS than a week!
Including his guy McCain.
How so, B.S.Freeper? He simply pointed out that "WE" shouldn't have originally made Iraq seem so easy in the original article...

I too respect McCain for supporting the war, but this latest statement has me infuriated. It's an outright lie, and he knows it. McCain has always appeared a little too eager to get into the White House and to please lefties. I support McCain because of his support of the war and ONLY!! if he is the one GOP candidate who can keep Shrillary out of the White House.
Amen. I detest flip flops. It's so deceptive. Stick to one side on an issue McCain or kiss it all goodbye.

I'd have to completely agree with this statement. Pres. Bush has always told the American public that this war would be long and hard. It irritates me everytime I hear someone giving their "interpretation" of what the President said. Especially with my son now in Baghdad for the start of a one year tour.
This boob must be taking leasons from lurch, he's both for it and at the same time agaonst it.
I have huge respect and admiration for McCain's ability to survive the Hanoi Hilton. But...
I am fed up with his Clintonesque triangulation and Senator Gadfly routine.
He does not strike me as a man with core convictions about much of anything outside the war, and his recent behavior shows that his convictions there are eroding.
I do not understand why he or anyone else continues to tell the lie that Bush said the war in general or in Iraq in particular would be easy. He has repeatedly said the opposite at every step, starting 9/12. Any comments about how it would be a cakewalk were strictly about defeating the Iraqi military, which came true. Any comments about how the Iraqi people would welcome us also came true because the vast majority did and do.
Anyone with half a brain knew that American forces and anyone pro-American would become a jihadi target, which is a bit of an advantage in that Iraq has become a Roach Motel. Anyone with same half-brain knew that surviving members of Saddam loyalists would oppose us. The level of opposition has turned out to be higher than expected but nothing in war is ever predictable. As the saying goes, "no plan of battle ever survives contact with the enemy." If you look at the history of warfare, Iraq has by comparison gone remarkably according to plan.
I know McCain is feeling heat from the willfully blind MSM, but that doesn't mean he has to cave in under it. He withstood a just a wee bit more pressure than that at the Hilton, so he can hold up under the threat of CNN/NYT smears...if he wants to. If he does cave in, then he has lost what is left of my respect for him as a senator and he can go sit in the corner with a dunce cap next to Duke Cunningham as Vietnam heroes later disgraced in their political life.
Agreed. Ever since the start of the war, I've heard critics talk about the admin saying how easy it would be. But they never produced one quote from an admin official saying as much. Because no one from the admin ever said it would be easy.

If it's so obvious to you, why not just rattle of a couple of examples? And not just of areas where McCain has veered from your own beliefs, I mean real backstabbing.
