Have y'all been here-(Florida)- long enough to remember category 1 Hurricane David, stalling off the Space Coast back in 1979?

I was in Gainesville in 1979. I remember it vaguely. Not nearly the "we're going to die" hype that storms get now.

Nope, 90's for me. Erin was my first experience with a Florida hurricane. Was it Floyd that came the next year but stayed 75 mi off the coast of Fla, only to do a job on the Carolinas? I remember the evac and everybody up in arms because it stayed nice and sunny. That's the trouble with a near miss, complacency sets in, idiot newscasters ridicule people who took precautions, and more get caught unprepared the next time.
