LEX 18 News ended an evening recap of yesterdays coverage of the Comair Flight 5191 crash for the live broadcast of the prime-time Emmy Awards. The annual TV awards show opened with shots of host Conan OBrien bouncing inside a plane before it crashed on an island in a spoof of ABCs hit show Lost.
WLEXs president and general manager, Tim Gilbert, who was home watching the telecast with his family, was stunned by the intro; if station managers had known about the intro before the broadcast, Lexington viewers wouldnt have seen it, he said.
It was a live telecast we were completely helpless, Gilbert said of the Emmys. By the time we began to react, it was over. At the station, we were as horrified as they were at home.
Gilbert said hell complain to NBC, but he said an apology wont make up for insensitivity.
They could have killed the opening and it wouldn't have hurt the show at all, Gilbert said. We wish somebody had thought this through. Its somewhere between ignorance and incompetence.
Saw the skit, thought it was funny...knew people would be oversensitive and get offended by the plane bit, was a little surprised they ran with it....turned the station when the monologue began. "Heaven and Earth" was on....great flick.
So much for no spoilers for the folks on the left coast...
they're on sort of...
they have to find a way into the end zone, or it will be a very long season again.
Funny, funny stuff.
I'm glad to hear that one though... It'll keep me watching :~D
Hedy Lamarr was great, did you know she was a spy during World War II? (the good guys, of course)
Sorry...I couldnt sit through it, since my favorite show House got so screwed...did my second favorite...24 get many or any awards?
Jon Cassar won for best director for episode 5.1 (May a pox fall on him for that episode.)
Kiefer won for best actor in a drama series.
"24" won best drama series.
I didn't know that she was,I knew that Marlene Dietrich did a little spying for the US,and even received a medal for it after the war.
No, I don't think those were funny. I don't think most things so-called comedians do is funny. They are usually cruel and stupid people making fun of other people they know nothing about. They live in their little freaky world where they are catered to day in and day out. They wouldn't know anything about normal people or how they live.
You would think these 'geniuses' could wing it after knowing there was a plane crash today. But, I guess they can't get off the script during their love-fest to themselves.
But, to tell the truth, I couldn't care less about any of them. I don't watch most of their crap anyway.
Couldn't have said it better.
If you werent watching the MSM, you wouldnt have seen the spoof.
I personally think this one is overblown.
Yahoo
There is SOME justice in tv land..8-)
To do that they'd have thrown away a superbly well written, directed and acted intro, all on the advice of someone who by admission has no sense of humor and will not be in the audience anyway.
That'd be pretty stupid of them :~)
Yeah but Greg Itzin and Jean Smart got totally ripped off.
Correct. It was major news today, but Hollywood is just interested in itself, especially the Chosen Few.
would your feelings be a bit different if your mother/father/or loved one have been on that plane this morning?
What kind of a hypersensitive wussy is "offended" by this skit? It had nothing to do with the Conair diasaster, and everything to do with "Lost", the ABC series. It clearly took several weeks to prepare, as it included stars from several hit series in cameos. So he is supposed to cancel it because of a crash they cant predict? Ridiculous.
I happen to have a great sense of humor. I just don't think these people are funny. Maybe if they weren't such phonies I would think differently. Knowing they are a bunch of lefty fools who hate people in 'flyover country' is hard to ignore though.
