I found it curious that Armitage is connected to the Aspen Strategy Group which is co-chaired by Scowcroft, another Iraq naysayer. Feldman says Miller was also involved with the Aspen Institute. I couldn't help but think about Libby's curious line in his letter to Miller about the Aspens turning in clusters because they are connected by the roots.

As for Armitage, he seems to only remember the details after evaluating what other facts become known and how much trouble he'll be in if continues to forget. Gutless is right but that's not enough to describe his double dealings on multiple issues, including (I think) feeding McCain and Hagel (also involved with the Aspen Institute) a steady stream of negatives on Iraq.

It seems clear that State--Powell and Armitage--aimed to stop the Iraqi invasion by fair means or foul. They dropped the ball (deliberately) in Turkey, after Powell had led the administration in the UN blind alley. My guess is that they hinted to the Turkish army that failure to approve the attack from the north would cause the operation to halt. Never having commanded an army ,l Powell must have been stunned when Franks et al, managed to pull it off with the force left available.

"Patrick Fitzgerald, who seems to be a creature of the media only, must now take these new media revelations and prosecute the guilty parties—- not the innocent. And none of the conspirators must be left out: Not Armitage, who betrayed his country for the sake of revenge, nor Spikey and Dave, who both knew what was going on all along and connived to promote a blatant miscarriage of justice. And possibly not even Colin Powell, who was probably kept in the loop by his good buddy Dick. "
