Yes, he was, and he was also the founder of the church. It is one thing for Peter to be martyred, and quite another for some newspaper reporter to get shot over this.
My point was that Jesus did not condemn Peter for renouncing him. Not at all. I know Peter's fate.
It is true we all deny Christs sacrifice when we sin. And it is by his grace that we are forgiven. But I could not deny Him by publicly converting to islam without risking eternity away from Him.
