"Do I have the strength to proclaim my faith and NOT deny Christ?
"

Oh, I suspect these guys weren't really converted, don't you? It's what's in your mind that counts, not lies told to captors, I'd guess.

You said it. Lies to fools are not what is in a mans heart. As an atheist, wouldn't you convert and then walk away saying "suckers"? If anything, these muzzies proved themselves fools by using a tactic they accuse the Crusaders of using.

Exactly. The hysteria here over their supposed "conversion" is really annoying. They may have said the words, but God knows what's in their hearts and that's what matters -- not what they were forced to say with guns pointed at them.

Bzzzt! Wrong Answer!
Speaking of things you profess to know nothing about, let alone personally know? I'll help you...

Matthew 10:31-33 (King James Version)
32 Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.
33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.

I don't know. I'm not at all saying I'd do any better in the same boat and I certainly wouldn't judge, but between Daniel and the Lion's den and Peter's denial of Christ to save himself, the Bible is pretty clear it's a no-no.

On the upside, Peter's experience proves this is forgiveness to be had.

I hope I never have to test that theory personally.

I suspect that is NOT the message Christ was sending when he fortold of Peter's thrice denial.

YEP! This is the best way to show just how absurd the ROP is. Forced conversion does not make a true believer. He's seen the full videos of Nick Berg, Daniel Pearl and all the other beheadings. He used his head to keep his head....

NONE of us can honestly say what we would do if in the same position as him.

Judaism prohibits this denial of faith even on penalty of death.

What you said. This taqqiyah stuff works both ways.
