I think, as if anyone really cares, that what we are seeing is result of a system that is operating way too near capacity for too long. Whether it's a water pump or your heart a given pump is designed and built for operating at a certain level. If you run it at higher levels all the time something's gotta give. The airlines are under pressure from every side. There's not a single facet of the industry's day-to-day demands that's not been operating at above the ideal level for a long time. If it's not fuel costs, it's security. If it's not labor cost, it's labor discontent. The list goes on and on. And the more complex a system is the less able it is to continue to operate when parts of it are being severely stressed.
