Or Arnold will break his pledge once he no longer has to face the voters again and just raise taxes. Maybe I'm being too cynical but his political mentor is George Bush I. Yep, THAT Bush of the infamous "no new taxes" pledge. Which he broke in exchange for a worthless promise from the Democrats to cut spending. Which of course, never happened but there was the tax increase. It cost him his re-election.

(No more Olmert! No more Kadima! No more Oslo! )

Frankly, I think it would have been great if you had pulled out all of the stops to elect Simon. But the naivte of this essay may indicate why you didn't. It is absolutely no surprise that Schwartnegger would be interested in power. The Terminator is his image, and that's not based on principle. You got a celebrity candidate because your party is weak and insecure. That's how dictators like Chavez rise to power. So, it could be worse.

Your Statement: "We don't have much of a choice. We hate having Arnold as our candidate out here, but the alternative to him is so bad,....."

Response: The formal name for your idea is "The Doctrine of Relative filth!"

Angelides is trying to get conservatives to stay home or vote third party, because "Arnold is not conservative enoutgh" (useful idiot alert!), so Arnold would get fewer votes and Angelides could eke out a victory.

Yes, indeed, Angelides is so far left, that he is a socialist, but some conservatives want to cut off their nose to spite their face -- either that, or most likely they are NO conservatives, just trying to get Angelides elected.

To succeed needs courage, tenacity, abnegation and support for the party. If Republicans do not understand this, the CAGOP will perish. There are many conservatives who are trying to darken Republican's understanding. Republicans are nervous and anxious because, unhappily, many of you believe anything that is said and whispered even without taking time to reflect-many believe that what you hear every day over the internet or conservative radio, paid for by our enemy, is the absolute truth. Republicans do not take the trouble to compare the disturbing similarity between the conservative and Democrat propaganda, which aim at the same goal-to create disorder in the CAGOP, to increase the misery of the population of California, to prevent the rebirth of the CAGOP.

Does this sound familiar? It should. The FairOpinion account makes similar arguments to conservative Republicans.

It is a speech, with some small changes to nouns to make my point, presented to the French people by the Vichy government in 1941 explaining why they should ingnore patriots and embrace their enemy.

There are so many striking similarities I felt it might jar the CAGOP back to some sense of reality and propriety.

"Or, how about a campaign to write in Tom McClintock as Gov? "

Are you really aching to have Angelides as governor?

No, but I'm not aching to have Ahnuld either.

Please remind me of why I'm supposed to vote for him.
I'm still boiling at his recent comments regarding people who think that we are being invaded by illegals (we are).

"All I ask of Arnold is that he veto this horrific "Universal
Health Care Bill" the California Legislature is passing!"

====

Fortunately Arnold is on record that he will veto it and Angelides is on record that he will sign it.

===

"Even if SB 840 falls under Schwarzenegger’s veto, it will be back, Kuehl’s staff promise.

If Schwarzenegger is reelected, SB 840 supporters will keep up the heat, and if Phil Angelides wins, he is expected to sign the health care reform into law, Gold said. "

"Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger does not support a single-payer system, calling it a tax increase. Gubernatorial candidate Phil Angelides has said he would sign the bill if he wins the November election.

Of course there is no requirement to vote for anybody. It's a free country.

But it's highly hypocritical to keep tirelessly working to get Angelides elected, while running around claiming to be conservative.

" I challenge Arnold supporters to mention ONE conservative policy with which he is identified"

====
Apparently NOT raising taxes, vetoing homosexual marriage bills, vetoing drivers licenses for illegals, creating a business friendly climate, by reforming workers comp doesn't count as conservative policy in your book?

"Unfortunately, I will choose to vote for Arnold."

===

That shows you are an intelligent conservative and mature adult -- unlike those who throw temper tantrums and in the process not only cut off their own nose, to spite their face, but destroy California and all the rest of us living here.

The difference between Arnold and Angelides is day and night.

Angelides can't wait to raise taxes, sign bills for income redistribution, socilized medicine, drivers licenses for illegals, homosexual marriage -- all of which Arnold has opposed, vetoed and will continue to do so.

Bingo. I voted for McClintock last time, and I'm not a fan of Arnold but I AM voting for him this time. As bad as he is, Arnold does function as a badly needed check on the left-wing excesses of the legislature.

Are you becoming another Angelides supporter?

THAT is what you are doing by voting for anyone other than Arnold. You might as well come out of the closet and go and vote directly for Angelides, instead of using subterfuges, pretending to be a conservative, which still have the same result.

NO real conservatives prefer leftist socialist Angelides to Arnold. PERIOD.

What is interesting, that REAL conservatives, like McClintock and others agree with ME, and ANGELIDES Dems are the ones who are pushing the SAME strategy YOU are pushing, for conservatives to not vote for Arnold. Quite telling.

It will be over the head of the local representation.
