I know little about the legal industry, but I would assume that on appeal it could be argued that she should have recused herself due to a clear conflict of interests.

Being a liberal means never having to say you're sorry.

You see, anything a liberal activist does in the course of furthering the cause, is by definition in the public interest. Therefore, there is never any need to apologize.

Everyone knows what the "Community Foundation" is, right? It's Detroit's branch of the United Way. They also fund the Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Salvation Army, hospitals, etc. Judge Taylor's co-board members include the chairmen of Detroit Edison, Consumer's Power and old Detroit scions like Stroh and Hudson.

Maybe she should have recused herself, but the fact that she sits on their Board is actually a good thing that she's doing.
