Runway 26/8 does not cross Versailles Road.
Runway 22/4 does cross Versailles Road and it is the longer, primary runway.
Unless they banked really hard after takeoff, it does not seem like they took the wrong runway.
I'm sure it was the runway they were cleared for. Often these threads and the reports from the msm are full of speculation from aviation buffs and private pilots who while well intentioned are just out of there element.
I normally stay away from them but when someone starts speculating people are impaired and acting as if using a wrong runway is as easy as turning the wrong way down a one way street. It's just too much.
Tailwind take-off.... not usually advisable...
Aerial photos on MSNBC would seem to support your statement. It certainly looks to me as though the crash site lies directly beyond the main runway.
If they crashed at the fire training center then they didn't crash Versailles road. The center is on the same side as the airport.
The edge of 22/4 comes right up to, but does not actually cross, Versailles Road.
That's what I was looking for. Thanks!!
I was attempting to check out a report that was put up about wrong runway. That is why I asked "impaired?"
I think the issue was the length of the runway. The main runway is 7000 feet. The secondary runway this plane was on was 3500, far too short for a CRJ to take-off, it needs about 5800 feet. The shorter runway is only suitable for small private aircraft. Although a CRJ is small by commercial jet standards, it is still much too large to take off on a 3500 foot runway safely.
