Ernesto is rapidly intensifying to near hurricane strength, with heavy rains and flooding possible over much of Hispaniola. Rainfall amounts of 6 to 12 inches...with possible isolated amounts of up to 20 inches...are expected over Haiti and the Dominican Republic. These rains could cause life-threatening flash floods and mud slides.
A Tropical Storm Warning and a Hurricane Watch remain in effect for Jamaica. A Hurricane Watch remains in effect for the Cayman Islands. A tropical storm watch may be required for portions of the Florida Keys later today.

Hoping...hoping...
I am actually EXCITED TO ANNOUNCE...that MY HOUSE is getting rained on as I type..
YA-HOOOTY!!!
Texas freepers rejoice...rain!!
Already did Sleuthie!
Yeehaw! Let it rain, let it rain, let it rain!
(With apologies to Bing Crosby).
Store shelves stay remarkably well stocked prior to storms around here. Stockboys are often in the aisles repleneshing as hot items are removed.
I know that paths change... but the latest one on CNN shows the danged thing going right over my house in Ocala.
I wouldn't mind a little shake down storm to see how this new house holds up while it's still under the builder's warranty.
Only one itty bitty spot of red near the center. And it looks more ragged with each frame.
Yesssss!!! Here too!! Happy dance!
WHOO-HOO!!!
There's one mountain in Cuba that's 6,500' high, but that's the exception. I think we're far better off hoping that Ernesto rakes Cuba for several hundred miles than expecting the mountains to doom the storm. Although, based on the latest recon report, it looks pretty injured at the moment.
The mountains are located along the southeast coast near Gitmo. And once you cross them, it's pretty much flat all the way to Colorado.
LOL! Depends on where in Central Fl you are:) We're a mixed bag.. My neighbors were just fantastic- we all did the hurricane bonding thing..shared food, ice, batteries..big neighborhood cookouts. One thing- if it looks like it's headed this way- eat all your freezer food now..hehheh.
After Charley we got pretty professional for the next two- gassed up cars early- loaded up on ice..charcoal or gas for grills.
We all managed- though it was uncomfortable as hell with the heat and humidity for two weeks without electricity (No FReeping).
What a RELIEF for y'all...hope it rains all day and night and you get cooled off...
Love those things. Thought I was the only one. For sure it would be the first thing I'd stock up on it come threat of a hurricane. ;)
That's good to hear. Miami was a free for all in the stores.
Congrats! Im wearing out my radar reload key as some storms approach Fort Worth. Looks good!
You sound like you're singin' in the rain!!
Here are a couple of interesting historical tracks to see what Haiti can do to a tropical system:
In both cases, a pass along the south of Haiti knocked them down several sizes.
All other factors for development have gotten more favorable. Once it gets away from the Island, it will redevelop. If it doesn't move too fast, it might have a long way to redevelop. The mountains are severely restricting inflow to the storm.
The no FReeping part is the hardest of all. My internet is combined with the phone and cable package..so if power goes it all goes. I do have a battery tv, hand crank radio and hand crank cellphone charger. But I repeat, no FReeping is the hardest of all!
Shouldn't Bush start pushing that thing over toward New Orleans or some other "chocolate area?" The way it's tracking now, some white folks might be inconvenienced!!!
Just finished watching previews of the Spike Lee hurricane story.
After Charley, I decided to get an old-fashioned hardline. All the cell towers were out here after Charley...and the hardline phones came back before any others.
Not FReeping is awful!
