Whatever it takes to stay alive I understand the sentiment. I would simply point out that if the early Christians had taken that attitude and paid obeisance to the Roman gods when asked, there would be no Christianity today - since it was the courage and faith of the martyrs that demonstrated the power of Christianity to the people of the empire. Islam is truly a loathesome thing.
