Carter is simply one of those wannabes who found the key to gaining acceptance by the intelligencia: Say bad things about your country. If you say positive things about a group, a party, a company, a nation, you're not serious enough for the Noam Chomsky crowd. If you bash, then you're one of them, because you see through the lies and deception, to the truth that the world and everyone in it is miserable, bad, evil and just wrong.

That's a very good point about the Great Incompetent. He's like Robert McNamara - publicly lick the boots and undersoles of every leftist he can find (in the wretched McNamara's case, its trash the soldiers who fought HIS war) and they might say something nice about how he's "grown" our of office and is the best ex-somtehing or other the country ever had.
