Further, all illegal aliens who are convicted felons must be deported as a beginning. The remaining illegal aliens must be put into a lawful naturalization program with a reasonable time limit to learn English, meet the long-standing standards every legal immigrant has always met, pay taxes on all income (which they should be allowed to continue earning) and finally take the oath.

In reading the article, I didn't read anything about his support for the Specter/Bush plan. Did I miss something?

I only disagree with Rev. Falwell on one point, illegal immigration. He favors granting admission to the naturalization process to ~12 million people who have kicked off their relationship with us by disrespecting the integrity of our national border and violating our immigration laws, tax laws and labor policy. IOW, he wants to grant amnesty to them for these transgressions. In so doing, we would be rewarding law-breakers and setting a terrible precedent for the future. If they want to become American citizens, the first step should be to return to Mexico and apply for that just like everybody else does.

That's called Amensty, which is what Bush and Specter want.

The key part of the Bush / Specter plans is allowing those in the country illegally to stay after paying fines & back taxes. This aligns exactly with Falwells definition of a good way to resolve the issue and is directly opposite to the alternatives which all start with the basic concept no one who is illegal gets to stay.

Makes Falwell all the more irrelevant in Conservative (non-Republican Country Club) circles.

What amazes me is the repetition of the fantasy that the illegals will pay fines and back taxes. We all know that isn't going to happen.

What amazes me are achievements and the steep amount of U.S. blood and treasure spent in Afghanistan and Iraq, worthy endeavours to be sure, yet enforcing domestic immigration laws is suddenly "not practical" says Bush.

Political cowardice and a dereliction of duty, pure and simple.

Falwell also recently was making "nice" with McCain.

Kinda says it all.

Let's put it this way.

Know how the media when it needs a "traditional" Republican surfs out Buchanon? Well, when they need a Christian they surf out Falwell or Robertson. None of those three are any longer able to claim to "speak" for their respective charges, with any respective political power attached.

I said it before when falwell met with McCain. They are using each other. Falwell wants to be a power broker again, and McCain wants to claim he's made nice with the Christian right. Neither is happening anytime soon.

Apparently you didn't get the talking points memo.

You're supposed to call it the Reid-Kennedy bill.

Falwell and Robertson (a "convert" to the absurd crypto-Comminist fallacy of "global warming") are proving to be the abject fools we always suspected them to be.
