My problem with the current occupation of Iraq is that this technique of smash, occupy, and stabilize really only worked well in orderly societies, such as Japan and Germany. The Middle East is the antithesis of this. I hear that if we leave, it's only a matter of time before Iran controls Iraq. Certainly this would happen, and Iran continues to hit us by proxy every day without our response. I think a more appropriate solution to this mess is to start heating things up with Iran; go after the head of the snake. The Iranian government will always be a problem as long as it has power, so a strategic redeployment of our troops from Iraq to Iran makes the most sense.

Militaries are great at threatening and breaking things, but not so good at building. Conservatives who were appalled at the peacekeeping and social missions of the military under Clinton say we have to build a stable government in Iraq. I say we go back to the original concept of the military: When it is (infrequently) used, use it to crush an enemy and completely break his will and ability to fight. We demoralize him and don't apologize for the Abu Ghraib incidents. This only shows how weak we've become.

I think it's just a matter of time before we have the next war with Iran. Too bad we didn't do Iraq, Iran, and Syria in a grand Mideast sweep.

I really hate wars immensely, but if they are fought, they should be fought under the concept of Total War.

doing this at this time would give the left more ammunition. Of course, they would just raise the din of their anti-everything, anti-Bush, anti-American rhetoric even more.

While I agree we should be fighting with our all, dealing with iran, at least for now, would be better dealt with by supporting the opposition Iranians who want to overthrow the Mullahs and Ahmanutjob.

Ideally, though not likely, Europe should be dealing with Iran instead of helping arm them. Until terrorism is so huge it will be extremely difficult to destroy, Europe will continue to kowtow to terrorists in hopes they will be left alone.

Not enough Euopeans learn from their history, just yet!
