To Liberals, the United States Constitution is a "living document," which means that, to the modern mind, "words can be construed to mean anything we want them to mean."

Thus, for example, the word "marriage" can be construed to include the union of a man with another man, or, for that matter, the union of a man with a barnyard animal, while a man who's had himself mutilated to resemble a woman can claim to be female.

However, words are utilized according to their definitions or they mean nothing at all.

"Shall not be infringed" means precisely that; i.e., that every citizen has a fundamental right, bestowed by God and no other, to keep and bear arms. And to protect that right, and others likewise bestowed by God, "governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed." Period. And "keep and bear arms" means any arms. Period.

This was supposed to be a nation of citizen-soldiers, but, of course, that's now by the boards - together with pretty much the entire American way of life, thanks to a corrupt legislature, weak justices, greedy lawyers, and power-mad presidents. Not to mention legions of criminals who have abused their rights and lost them for all of us.

Thus does history repeat itself. Santayana was right.

By the way... the fact that this was supposed to be a nation of citizen-soldiers should not be taken to imply that the ownership of firearms was ever intended in any way to be limited to a "militia" or anything of the kind. The right to keep and bear arms is an individual right, guaranteed all by the Second Amendment.

I guess a good dose of sheep wolves and sheepdogs is needed.

"Then there are the wolves," the old war veteran said, "and the wolves feed on the sheep without mercy." Do you believe there are wolves out there who will feed on the flock without mercy? You better believe it. There are evil men in this world and they are capable of evil deeds. The moment you forget that or pretend it is not so, you become a sheep. There is no safety in denial.

An armed society is a polite society.

I haven't seen your idea expressed before. Like most good ideas it is simple, straight forward, common sense.

What the he77 is "gun violence"?

It's similar to what happens when an "SUV kills family of four."
