Wow,someone else besides me on FR who is not totally dismissive of Black Studies!
I took at least three such classes in college. They were all academically demanding. One was taught by a Nigerian professor who was educated in England and demanded top notch work.Another was a man from Detroit who had a wonderfully inclusive attitude toward the whole discipline.
Neither teacher articulated"anti-white"views or tried to indoctrinate us into black nationalism.
Now a few of the black STUDENTS were on the edgy side but they weren't the ones grading the papers or evaluating the quality of work.

My last boss, an African American Christian, teaches classes in Religion and she really knows her scriptures. She's rigorous and I've typed some of her exams. I sure wouldn't want to take any classes from her because I would have to work too hard (smile). There are always some professors who grade too easily and kids always seem to take their classes. Another professor in Philosoophy and Religion is from Africa and he is also very demanding.

One of the professors actually wrote in a newspaper article on campus that he thought all whites hated blacks. Funny since he's part white I'm sure and he's married to a white woman. Very odd.
