A Recipe for Success (for Angelides) (Conservatives are Angelides' secret weapon)
CA Majority Report ^ | Aug. 25, 2006 | Ben Tulchin

Take risks–Unseating an incumbent governor is never easy. It’s only happened once since World War II. Given that fact, Angelides has to be aggressive and take some risks. Here are some things he could do:

o Attack Arnold from the right :

§ Illegal immigration–Arnold has angered the conservative base with some of his comments on this issue. The Angelides campaign, or perhaps an anti-Arnold independent expenditure campaign, could attack Arnold in the mail or on the radio and use Arnold’s own words against him.

§ Taxes/government spending–The state government continues to run what is essentially a deficit and Arnold’s numerous proposals to increase government spending and borrowing turn off Republicans. This line of attack could also mitigate some of the tax attacks against Angelides.

This has also been mentioned in a number of other articles.

Just remember this, next time so-called conservatives are engaging in an all out attack on Arnold -- they are doing Angelides' work for him.

Here are some additional concrete examples of how the Dems are counting on conservatives staying home and try to influence them to do precisely that.

Schwarzenegger Hears Rumbles From the Right

" low conservative turnout will loom as a key peril for the governor and a prime source of hope for Democrats."

====

"Angelides ... must win 80% of the Dems and a solid majority of the DTS (declined to state) registrants, TO ACCOMPANY THE 15% REPUBLICANS WHO DON'T VOTE FOR THEIR PARTY'S TICKET"

ANGELIDES IS COUNTING ON THEM.

=====

Angelides team bullish on California's blue state math (counting on CONSERVATIVES, to win)

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1676818/posts

Angelides' camp believes that while the governor enjoys support among some Democrats now, by the time ballots are cast in November, the base will remain loyal.

They also believe that the opposite will occur with the Republicans because Schwarzenegger's recent move to the left on key issues such as immigration and the environment has alienated conservatives.

To pull off a win, Angelides must seize his opportunities

"But it will not be easy, and Angelides must take full advantage of the opportunities: ... the governor's sometimes tense relationship with conservatives; "

Angelides won't do that because he's a liberal. So is Arnold. They both see government as the alpha and omega of addressing California's problems - not as the cause of it.

"They both see government as the alpha and omega of addressing California's problems"

===

I think you are wrong about that. Arnold does NOT favor "big government". What you and many others keep forgetting, that Arnold is NOT a dictator or emperor, who can do anything he wants -- he has to contend with the Dem Legislature and they are the ones pushing all the government programs.

I have to keep reminding you and everyone else, that Arnold put some serious reform propositions on the ballot in the special election, which would have curtailed spending and would have given him power to cut spending, when the Legislature refused to do it, and the voters defeated it.

So what do you expect Arnold to do?

Nobody else, regardless of any conservative rhetoric would have been able to accomplish more, in fact, I doubt they would have accomplished as much as Arnold did, given the circumstances.

Instead of criticizing Arnold, people should put the blame where it belongs: on the Dems and the voters.

Let's look at his record: Arnold has proposed more borrowing, has presided over a record increase in state spending, supports a higher minimum wage and green "global warming regulations" that would shut down California's economy and supports gay rights and diversity. His Administration and judicial appointments are stacked with scads of liberal Democrats. He may be a Republican but the Austrian ain't a Reagan Republican for sure.

Hey Amerigomag -- does goldstatgop know you are posting under his/her SN or was that always your alternate SN for amusement?

I'm NOT Amerigomag but I happen to agree with him. We MUST face the facts squarely - which you do not. Arnold is NOT a conservative. He wouldn't even agree to be photographed with the solidly conservative down ticket slate of Republicans running for state constitutional offices here. His own allegiance is not to the party or to its principles but to himself. We'd better not lose sight of who the Liberalinator is. A Trojan Horse for the Left.

The FACTS are, that we have a choice between Arnold or Angelides in November. Pick one.

The FACTS are also that the Dems are COUNTING on conservatives cutting off their nose to spite their face to not vote for Arnold.

So whom do YOU support: Arnold or Angelides?

Amerigomag is on record that he prefers Angelides. You said you agree with him.

FO,your wasting your time.

goldstategop doesn't vote. Says it isn't worth getting off her butt and making the effort. All she's doing is blowing hot air here on FR just as she did last November then when the time comes to voice her opinion with a vote she can't be bothered.

If we end up, God help us, with commie Angelides it's the likes of goldstategop we can thank [or curse]for our taxes and freedom going through the roof.

Let's hope there will be enough sensible people getting out to vote to make sure Arnold gets reelected.

CA. Farm Bureau endorses Schwarzenegger

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1689698/posts

Farm Bureau is launching a "No Tractor Tax" campaign to mobilize members of the state's 53 county Farm Bureaus, by underlining the sharp differences between the two gubernatorial candidates.

Arnold is going to win. This "game plan" of the Democrats will not work. They, themselves, have selective memories and foolishly think the voters do too.

And yes, I recently encountered another smelly thread consisting of faux conservatives bashing Arnold. Peas Porridge Hot...

It's been a long "civil war" going on in CA. The ugly ones have seized all institutes of beauracy and pub spending. Arnold is not a liberal. He is, in fact, working within the framework of this war, created by liberals and fascists. Time is on his side, by my calculations.

The CA Democrat plan, as best I can analyze, is to get into office, and then to act like Arnold. They know he wins. They know the population likes him. So, they are launching as large an offensive as possible. All they (CA Dems) need is this win to get into office and put on their chimera, writing more bad policies and laws which they will never let the public know about.

Arnold has always been upfront. Whether folks like him or not. He's real.

So therefore, this election amounts to: Vote for reality (Arnold), or vote for liars and cheats.

You make a lot of presumptions about me. Sure - I didn't vote last time and this November I won't even be in California. I don't have a dog in this hunt and the way I see it - in this state things will continue to get worse. The middle class is leaving. Within my lifetime, the only people here will be those wealthy enough to afford an overpriced home along with a huge Third World class of the extremely poor. Government spending and regulations will continue on autopilot regardless of who gets elected here in the fall.

He IS a liberal! Look at it his inner circle and look at his policies! Apart from taxes - can you identify ONE conservative policy he's associated with? Like I said, he may be a Republican but for sure he isn't a Reagan Republican.

I know I worked for years in California companies having liberal crap stuffed down my throat. According to "unrealistic" conservative in CA (and elsewhere), I should have just stood my ground, held forth railing about the evils of liberal business practices. And held forth hoping someone would laud me for my "reaganesque" approach to dealing with foul socialism? How much sense does that make. It certainly doesn't define realistic, practicable or wise "ruggedly individual" behavior...

What folks don't bother to pay attention to regarding many California voters? It's all about "fitting" in... whether it means fitting into a rabidly "liberal" psyche or niche, or fitting into a passionately "conservative" psyche or niche.

I know some think a more rigorous approach to conservatives in CA would win. It hasn't. Not in many years.

Arnold, IMHO, has taken a page of "SOP" practice from the Old South: Say this; but do the real work in another way. Southerners are not confrontational. Oh, they can be when properly provoked, but as a rule, they "shine on".

I respect and like Tom McClintock very much. He's actually educated in contrast to most the people voting for Democrats. But you see, Tom doesn't speak the ignorant talk of those voters who've been educated by the Democrat-run UNIONS via pub ed and all the zillions of "publically funded institutes". Ergo, they don't "get" Tom McClintock. Arnold, they can "get". At least partways. The voters are bored with the never advancing classic operational procedures of Democrats. Arnold adds a newer and exciting "tittilating" (if you will) twist to what he says, does and promotes. This brings newer voters into MAYBE CHOOSING to not continue living inside that echo chamber they've been taught and molded to live within. And to think outside "the box".

Progress, real, caculable, substantive progress in CA IS going to take time. It took Dems 30 years to bring a huge and wonderful state of CA to near insolvency in their hopes of forcing all the other states via Fed Monies to bail CA out, and to keep the state as a whole on a "new age" welfare status group. It's going to take time to recover the state.

Yeah, I know I've fought hard while in CA to awaken parents as to what was being "done to" their children in pub ed institutes. At this point in time, truly? Fighting the social fight out of CA is a loser when Dems continue to make "business and productive" flight a reality OUT of CA. That's what Arnold's focus is. Has to be. Maslow's Hierarchy is relevant here: Jobs, or touchy feely issues. It is that stark and drawn a decision. I think he's making the more prudent decision -- focusing on keeping the state solvent. Bringing businesses in.

Politically, he's also being very smart. Maybe not to the satisfaction of the "genuine" conservatives (voters); but there are Dems interested in keeping money flowing in their districts. Even tho we only hear from the "socially bent" ones via MSM. You consider this "treasonous" behavior by Arnold; I consider it good sense.
