Dennis Prager did a show about not wanting kids a month or so ago. Some people that thought they didn't want them/disliked children turned out to be wonderful parents. Some people that didn't have kids regretted it in the end. I guess it depends on the person. Interesting about your sister--how in general she's a great person but couldn't be a mom.

Oh, I do agree with that. I wasn't a big fan of babies myself until I had one of my own, and then I suddenly found myself begging my wife for a football team. We had three before finally declaring our family "finished".

My sister is an interesting example of the type simply because she dispells a lot of the notions about childless people. I realize it's hard to understand this without meeting her, but she isn't the "self centered spoiled liberal" stereotype that so many of us picture when we read these articles. She's a great person, she just had zero interest in parenthood. She told me years later that she felt bad about how she had treated her husband and the baby, but that she felt like an animal trapped in a cage against her will. She simply struck out at anything she could find in order to get free. Although she claims that none of it was deliberate, the reality is that her actions were escalating in the HOPE that someone would intervene and either take her away from the situation or take the baby. When her husband threw her out, she was relieved.

I love my sister dearly, but I can't claim to understand what she was going through. I am just happy that the little girl has ended up living a happy life with her father, and that my sister has found peace with a man who won't pressure her for kids.
