Watermelon and ice cream from Brooklyn

Alongside the discussion of the military and political failure of Lebanon War II, another important matter came up: the enlistment of individuals from Israel and from the Diaspora to raise contributions from world Jewry. The Jewish Telegraphic Agency (JTA) published a report that the French-Jewish media were helping to feed Israeli soldiers. Israel, the Middle Eastern power that for some 60 years now has been raising tens and hundreds of billions of dollars from world Jewry and the government of the United States, now needs prepared meals, soft drinks, ice cream and watermelons that are donated in the Diaspora.

The project was implemented from Rosh Hanikra to Metula and included a number of bases in the Galilee, the report noted. In other words, French and American Jewry should understand that were it not for the generosity of the donors, the soldiers at the front would not have had hot meals and cold drinks.

On the day after the war broke out, a dozen Jewish organizations in the United States published their addresses as sort of "emergency assistance funds for Israel." The organizations ranged from Magen David Adom to Hadassah and the United Jewish Communities of America and included institutions like Chabad; the aim of all of them, according to the paid advertisement, was to give the forces supplies in their actions and to free the captive soldiers. The willingness of Jews to "open their wallets" (as one report phrased it), should not be taken lightly, but the alacrity of Israeli elements to exploit this opportunity is jarring.

Lieberman is probably a donor himself. And just because he's a liberal, does not mean we should hate him. Why use that ridiculous and insulting socialist twisting of his name?

I don't *hate* LIEberman, per se, but he's a liar and a fraud. Witness his lies in 2000 with Kerry: "I was always pro-choice" etc etc etc. He was an opportunistic chameleon, and did some very slimy things back then. I have no reason to think he's changed his spots, since those LIES.

I don't trust him any farther than I could throw his worthless, liberal carcass. I thank him for his support of the WOi.

LIEberman first appeared on FR, for your edification. So did 'SoreLoserman'.

I didn't know that it appeared on FR first. Thanks for the headsup.

As for the man himself, we'll agree to disagree. I like the man, and hate his politics.

If pizza helps 'em fight better than the enemy, then pizza it is!

Whoever thought of setting up pizzaIDF was clearly a good student of History. This path to victory was well-trodden by Coca-Cola during WW-II.

Good initiative! Worth supporting.
