This post rings home for me. I lived in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia from 81-85 while working for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. We lived in compounds with walls and gate guards that protected us 24/7. Still, we drove to our offices, commissary, PX, the Souk and restaurants all the time. Our kids took school buses to the international school.
I enjoyed living there in the 80s. I always found the people to be friendly and crime was almost unheard of there. It is a shame to have it come to this!
