Some wasp and hornet spray down the hole, and then block the entrance seemed to work well.

You might want to do something about their food supplies, as well. Our neighbors haven't been putting up the humming bird feeder, and we haven't had as big a problem this year.

Don't block the entrance if they are living in the holes/cracks in the mortar between your bricks. They will find a way out even if they have to eat holes in your drywall. :(

My husband puts a length of conduit taped to the end of the shopvac hose, puts the end of the conduit right near the hole of the ground wasps, and leaves the shop vac on for an hour or so. Most of the wasps or bees are destroyed immediately, and we usually leave the thing there for several days and turn it on for an hour or more at dusk to get the whole nest. Over the course of a week this usually eliminates the whole nest with no poisons or fire or explosives - all of which have been tried, believe me! (c8

I've been known to start with a long blast of anhydrous amonia, followed by cutting torch, followed by gasoline, followed by shovel, followed by tandem disc.

I hate those things.
