One thing really stuck out. One of the speakers, a consultant, made the point that few people care about the war in Iraq. And urged talk show hosts to go on to other topics. He said, "Where to take your kids this weekend." would draw a bigger audience. He also said that what station managers want him to do most is find good talk show hosts.
In Cincinnati, Ohio, liberal talk show host Jerry Springer (a Cincinnati native and former mayor) was replaced by a sports show on 50,000 watt station, WCKY. Springer is now heard on a less dominant regional station, WSAI. WSAI is just 1,000 watts. Err America is just not doing well.
Springer told the Talk Radio Convention that liberal radio was going to take off any year now. He also lead the audience to believe he was not getting paid. He said, "I love Talk Radio.. I have to love it.. I am not making a penny at it."
Er, um, did he say what they're going to take off? (I'm glad it's radio so I don't have to watch the unveiling!)
