Lynn Cheney: Condi Rice for President?

The idea of a woman president is not so abstract now that the 2008 election nears, Lynne Cheney, wife of vice president Dick Cheney said Wednesday.

"If you're thinking of Condi Rice, I think she has good credentials," Cheney said.

During an appearance sponsored by the Aspen Institute, Cheney talked mostly about education and history but did venture into current politics, including the possibility of women running for president. She did not mention New York Sen. Hillary Clinton, widely thought to be considering a presidential run in 2008.

"(National security) is the driving issue," Cheney said. "The stereotype exists that women are softer. Maybe it's not true. I don't think it's true. But it's a little bit of a challenge to overcome for a woman president."

During the '96 Presidental Campaign, many Republicans were saying that we nominated the wrong Dole to head the ticket.

One single issue I use as a litmus test before I consider any other qualification is a candidate's stand on the Second Amendment. If they are anti-RKBA then I don't consider them any further since without the Second Amendment the rest of our rights are at risk.

Bears repeating. Over and over and over again. Until a solid majority of US voters grasp the concept.

A couple of years back the Republican candidate for state legislator for my district was repeatedly sending out full-color glossy campaign brochures featuring her promises for more "gun control". I voted for her Democrat opponent, who didn't say a word about guns one way or the other, but at least he wasn't trying to brainwash the voting public into thinking we need more "gun control". He won, by a narrow margin. And when a hapless young volunteer for the Republican candidate called me to ask "if we can count on your vote", I gave the poor kid an irate lecture on the Sedond Amendment that he's never likely to forget.

Though in general, I think there's a benefit to havnig more R's at any level of government, it's even more important to send loud messages to the Republican party that we won't just vote for any doofus who has an "R" next to his/her name, and that the party needs to serve up decent candidates.

Here is an excerpt from Rice's interview with Larry King on May 11, 2005 - 21:00 ET

KING: We have a Second Amendment. People can own guns. By the way, what do you think about gun control?

RICE: The way I come out of my own personal experience, in which in Birmingham, Alabama, my father and his friends defended our community in 1962 and 1963 against White Knight Riders by going to the head of the community, the head of the cul-de-sac, and sitting there, armed. And so I'm very concerned about any abridgement of the Second Amendment.

I'll tell you that I know that if Bull Conner had had lists of -- of registered weapons, I don't think my father and his friends would have been sitting at the head of the community, defending the community.

KING: So you would not change the Second Amendment? You would not...

RICE: I also don't think we get to pick and choose from the Constitution. The Second Amendment is as important as the First Amendment.

KING: But doesn't having the guns, while it's protection, also leads to people killing people?

RICE: Well, obviously, the sources of violence are many, and we need to -- to get at the source of the violence. Obviously, I'm very much in favor of things like background checks, and you know, controlling it at gun shows. And there are lots of things we can do.

But we have to be very careful when we start abridging rights that our Founding Fathers thought very important. On this one, I think that they understood that there might be circumstances that people like my father experienced in Birmingham, Alabama, when in fact, the police weren't going to protect you.

Me too.

But I do think women are softer than most men.

She'd have to distance herself some way from Bush's border policies - or lack of same.

Condi may not have been the one who was snookered.

She takes orders from her boss.

A Preseident will not end abortion. The states will end it their own laws. Same with gay marriage.

Right now what is important to this country is to have a LEADER who understands this world and how we are to function in it without compromising our ideals.

There doesn't seem to be many out there, especially a RAT.

Maybe Guiliani but he will not win the primaries. Senators cannot lead. You know who I want for President in 08?

Donald Rumsfeld!

Not me either.

I hate Giuliani but would probably vote for him if he ran against Hildebeast.

There is NO WAY I would vote for McCain - even if the Dems put up Lucifer himself. I'd vote for a third party candidate. I REALLY hate McPain.

Right now what is important to this country is to have a LEADER who understands this world and how we are to function in it without compromising our ideals.

I think that description fits Dr. Rice. Here are a couple of quotes from Dr. Rice:

"The idea that you have to wait to be attacked to deal with a threat seems to us simply to fly in the face of common sense. The United States has always reserved the right to try and diminish or to try to eliminate a threat before it is attacked. It simply wouldn't make sense to sit and wait to be attacked if you thought that you could eliminate a threat."

"The world's most dangerous people simply cannot be permitted to obtain the world's most dangerous weapons."

"American foreign policy in a Republican administration should refocus the United States on the national interest. There is nothing wrong with doing something that benefits all humanity, but that is, in a sense, a second-order effect."

THAT'S the type of person I want to see in the Oval Office.

I appreciate Condi's excellence. I think it's entirely possible we'll have a woman president in my lifetime but that America is not ready for a woman president in '08.

I'm eager to see the field of GOP candidates that emerges.

If America is not ready for a woman president in '08
then when?
2012?
2020?
2040?
2100?
When?
Condi is the Republican best qualified to be President AND decimate the Democrat Party.

I don't know when -- as I wrote, I think it's possible in my lifetime. I have a good many years to live, according to life expectancy tables.

Could it be because in the polls she always ranks in the top three of GOP candidates people prefer; along with McCain and Giuliani? I tell you this; between those three, it's Condi, hands down, for me.

Me too.

I'd rather the commiecRAT party destroyed.
10% isn't nearly enough to make them go away.
