I'm going to try growing basil indoors this winter....might be good for a leaf or two.
I started some basil in a little clay pot on my windowsill in February. It did really well. My 9 year old helped seed it, and boy was it thickly seeded! :)
Of course it wasn't as robustly flavored as the summer planted stuff, but it added a kick to spaghettii sauce and made for a nice leaf garnish on bruschetta.
I encourage you to give it a try. I'm in Minneosta BTW, land of very little winter sun.
OB doesn't know it yet, but the 10 year old mangy, leggy African violets are going. I may try growing basil and parsley in their place; the winter sun comes in pretty strong through that south window.
