If the goal of the person who did this was to create fear of movie theaters, or to create a fear of going to watch this movie - I'll give you that as a political motive, albeit an idiotic one. In which case, it would be terrorism.

But if his intent was a single, one time, ill advised, criminal prank - then he's not guilty of terrorism, so much as he's guilty of stupidity. In either case, he should be given the maximum penalty for the maximum charge that he can be charged with.

Well, yes. This was a really stupid stunt, and the person(s) who did it should be punished severely.

Even if the snakes had been non-poisonous, the panic could have injured people.

I suppose it was bound to happen.

When I was in high school, someone painted and armadillo sky blue and let it go in the high school.

The screaming, rampaging girls were more dangerous than the armadillo.

Doesn't *need* to be politically motivated to be "terrorism." Religion works too. I'm sure there soon will be, if there hasn't already been, *sports* related terrorism. Soccer hooligans, perhaps. PO'ed Paki cricketters.

First degree attempted murder. Which, IMO, should carry the same penalty as *actual* murder (just because you failed doesn't change your intent).

I don't know if anyone has brought this up here at Freerepublic, but I heard about this yesterday on our local country station. The Q&A are hilarious!!

You’re Toast with Snakes on a Plane on Toast!…

When religions get involved in terrorism, it is never just a religion, it is a political group with political aims, under the guise of religious zealotry.

If you want to charge everybody engaged in hooligannery with terrorism, be my guest - but it is a waste of time when the terrorists we want are the prolific ones who do it all the time for political, psuedo-religious reasons. I don't want to dilute our anti-terror resources and credentials to go after an idiot who let a poisonous snake loose in a theater. Yes, local police should get on it and find the perpetrator and throw the book at him, but getting the NSA, FBI, and CIA involved would be overkill without evidence that it is part of a concerted effort to kill large numbers of Americans or create fear of public spaces in large numbers.

Reminds me of what I did back in '74. A movie came out called "It's Alive". It was about this demonic infant who went on a rampage killing everyone it came across. I'd already seen it so I knew what to expect. My friend and I went in with a "Baby-that-a-way" doll in a back pack. About 3/4 of the way through the movie we sent the doll crawling down the aisle. It was cool! Jr high girls screaming and running, and adults telling me and my buddy what horrible people we were.

Hey, what did we know... we were 12!

I don't think we're arguing the same thing here.

I'm against escalating an idiot's crime to "terrorism" because of the necessary law enforcement response that would ensue, and you're arguing about broadening the definition of what constitutes terrorism, without broadening and escalating the enforcement level.

Kind of seems silly to call it terrorism if you're not going to treat it like terrorism. This particular perpetrator would be out of place in Gitmo.

What's all this hubbub going on over a movie about snacks on a plane? What kind of plot line is that for a movie? I mean what so unusual about having snacks on a plane? Everytime I've ridden on a plane the nice ladies hand out delicious snacks, like peanuts for example. I mean.....wha?.....oh......never mind!

Someone obviously has too much time on his hands.

As someone I once knew who was at Marine boot camp at Parris Island said, "You could always tell the Yankees from the Rebs. When a snake was spotted the Yankees ran in the opposite direction while the Rebs raced to see who would get the snakeskin".

It would have been funny, in a rude sort of way, had they not used actual rattlesnakes. That part was stupid.

When I was little, our family went to see a movie. Can't remember the movie, only remember it was in the theater NEXT to the theater showing "Earthquake."

I hope my dad got his money back...
