Wrong. What I said was no CHILD needs a cell phone. What a child NEEDS is adult (parental) supervision, with the eventual goal of becoming autonomous and independent. Adults can spend their money on what ever they want. I just choose not to waste mine on a cell phone. FWIW I also don't waste money on television or fast-food (children don't need those, either). Or shoes! The don't need them either. Let them walk around barefoot long enough and their feet will get calloused so they won't need shoes. And don't get me started on indoor toilets! They can empty a chamber pot as good as any ...

my 15 yo son was complaining about his prepaid cellphone and i said, listen, if i could get two telephone cans and a piece of string to work for what you need it for, that's what you'd have : )

"There are a lot of times I wish cell phones had NEVER been invented. I held off getting one as long as I could, I actually like to not be in touch with people 24/7."
The beauty of a free society and a free market; the idea of NOT being in touch with the rest of the world 24/7/365 is about as attractive as a camping trip with no TP, no heat and no food. I just wish I could have an implant to have streaming wireless connectivity with biofeedback control and RFID in place of keys and wallet- never have to touch paper or keyboard or NOT be getting six or seven newsfeeds simultaneously again!

According to the
Bureau of Justice statistics , based on a rate per 100,000 population, the stats for violent crime in the US were listed at 160.9 for 1960, and 465.5 for 2004, Robery was listed at 60.1 vs 136.7, Aggrevated assault came in at 86.1 for 1960 and 291.1 for 2004.
Looks like it might be a little tougher out there now than in 1960 to me.

Using statistics to justify our paranoia now, are we? ;-)

Maybe our reporting just got better?
(I don't actually believe that; just feel like stirring the pot).

Liberals have labeled helicopter parents as bad and too controlling. We see ourselves as watchful and there if they need us.
They condemn
parents for acting the way they want
government to act.
