I drive a semi. In one 600 mile round trip I pay $175.00 in tolls.
I see some bad truck drivers, and I see plenty of bad auto drivers. I would like to see the police pay more attention to tailgating, and reckless lane changing.
I have been around trucks all my life. Dad was a diver. So was I for a while. Did a lot of transportation type stuff in the Army. I now own a freight brokerage. Seems to me that if auto drivers would pay more attention to DRIVING instead of phones, stereo, kids, food etc. that things would be much safer. Also it would be nice if people understood inertia. Yer just not gonna stop 80,000 lbs as fast as a car.
You go guy. In all my years of driving, I have seen one nut-job trucker and a few make questionable lane changes and such. In the same time I cannot even begin to count the number of car drivers who drive, drunk, tired, arguing with others and generally not having a clue about momemntum, braking distances, merging or courtesy. There ought to be a High School program where new drivers get to drive a hundred miles with a trucker... It would really open their eyes. Truckers are professionals and, dare I say, have a higher proportion of good drivers then the law profession has of good lawyers, for instance. Keep the shiny side up.
I agree - I see pleny of insane auto drivers.
Folks just need to understand - Semis have a right of way based on physics. Teey can't stop, accelerate or manuever as quickly as a car. In nautical terms they are the "privledged vessel" and have the right-of-way.
