I talked to an Arab friend (non-Muslim) about this once, and I've read a few things since. The Middle East is very, very strict. If you leave your house, everyone knows it. If a stranger walks in the neighborhood, everyone knows it. Muslim women are totally covered, and where there are Christians, the women dress like they do here (if allowed). The Muslim men cannot talk to a woman and certainly not touch one. They see the Christian women, and it creates desire...and anger at the desire. This complete suppression of sexuality makes for some very angry, confused boys. At the same time, they are deathly afraid of Allah and believe all those prohibitions are from God, so they support them. Result: anger, anger, anger.
