The Republicans in Congress lost their testicles after the 1995 government shutdown. They haven't really faught the Rats over anything since then. And when a Republican does stand up, it seems with the help of the Drive By Media, the GOP rank and file themselves throw that person under the bus (Delay) . The only thing that has saved the Republicans and I guess we can only hope agains in 2006 is the Rats themselves and their lack of a plan for anything except blame the Republicans and Bush. I guess the memories of 9/11 helped the GOP in 2002 and 2004 to some extent.

Good point - that episode bears more discussion - I wasn't following it closely, alas, but I recall that Demagogues + lying MSM made it into a Republican-bashing affair and the Demagogues won out. Just imagine, a majority in Congress wanted to assert some fiscal discipline (last time we've seen any of that) and the Demagogues went crazy, making it seem that "eviiiil Republicans" were shutting down the government.

That was in the relative infancy of the worldwideweb, and maybe now things could turn out differently without the MSM monopoly, but the Republicans got burned, badly, and I think the "lesson" they learned was that they could get clobbered by the alliance of DNC and MSM talking points in any major showdown. It's time to teach the Demagogues that things really have changed, not to cower in craven servility to the MSM.
