IMO, the circumstances you describe are far from universal in this day and age. I'd tend to think they were rare, more than common. IMO.
It has it's charm when raising children, which is precisely why I came here some 16 years ago.
I am just about done with the chore of raising youngsters, and I am ready to rest for a long time.
The Grand Kids only stay a couple days....:-)
