EFF clowning around with union dues issue
Tri-City Herald ^ | 8-21-06 | Chris Mulick

You've got to hand it to the people at the Evergreen Freedom Foundation. When they devise a gimmick to make a point, they go all out.

The Olympia-based conservative think tank has been battling the Washington Education Association in court over the use of union dues to fund political activities. That's not legal, the EFF argues, and says union processes allowing members to reclaim the portion of their dues used on politics are too complicated. Most workers "give up and pay," the organization says, and opting out of the union doesn't solve the problem either.

While it waits to see if it'll get its chance to convince the U.S. Supreme Court, the EFF is trying to drum up a little publicity for its cause. Most groups would do that by issuing press releases by the bunches.

The EFF goes further to engage the masses.

It recently posted a circus-themed "game" on its Web site called "The Greatest Scam on Earth" depicting wand waving AFL-CIO President John Sweeney and National Education Association President Reg Weaver in top hats.

With circus music playing in the background, you are presented two clown icons. One says "Give Up And Pay," the other "Opt Out." The object of the game is to try and opt out of the union. The problem is, every time you wave your cursor over the "Opt Out" icon it moves.

"Hee, hee, hee, hee. Ha, ha!" the clown taunts.

The "Give Up And Pay" icon is the only one you can actually click on. And now the EFF has you trapped.

When you click on it a money bag toting donkey trots by and EFF propaganda appears like movie credits.

Wildwood, if you actually go to the website you can see what they're getting at. It's pretty well done.

Most groups would do that by issuing press releases by the bunches.

But then Commie sympathizers working for major media outlets would simply do what they have always done - either fail to report the matter (accurately, or at all), or bury an item in a paragraph on page C14 that few readers will even see. The only reason why someone like Chris Mulick is even reporting on the EFF's web site is that their "game" must be effective, so that it must be generating its own buzz and people are already talking about it so it's beyond the media's ability to hide it, and so he tries instead, albeit unsuccessfully, to pour disdain on it.

This is a typical response from a MSM lackey....if you can't prove something wrong, then disparage it to the max! It must be working though as it is getting a lot of attention from the folks there.

Speaking of unions, how about a union joke:

THIS IS HOW UNIONS WORK

A dedicated teamsters union worker was attending a convention in Las Vegas
and decided to check out the local brothels. When he got to the first one,
he asked the Madam, "Is this a union house?"

"No," she replied, "I'm sorry it isn't."

"Well, if I pay you $100, what cut do the girls get?"

"The house gets $80 and the girls get $20," she answered

Offended at such unfair dealings, the union man stomped off down the street
in search of a more equitable, hopefully unionized shop. His search
continued until finally he reached a brothel where the Madam responded,
"Why yes sir, this is a union house.

We observe all union rules."

The man asked, "And if I pay you $100, what cut do the girls get?" "The
girls get $80 and the house gets $20."

"That's more like it!" the union man said.

He handed the Madam $100, looked around the room, and pointed to a
stunningly attractive blonde.

" I'd like her," he said.

"I'm sure you would, sir," said the Madam. Then she gestured to a 92-year
old woman in the corner, "but Ethel here has 67 years seniority and
according to union rules, she's next."

EFF has caused enormous damage to the teachers unions in Washington. Many, many teachers have opted out of dues. May their great work continue. I wonder what the writer of this garbage has at stake?
