We are DOOMED.....!!!
At this point it's nothing but name recognition. Not one in a hundred can really offer a detailed, cogent analysis of their preference, and NOBODY can describe their choice without using the word "feel" or "feelings".
I saw Guiliani speak, and find him compelling, but would never vote for him in a PRESIDENTIAL primary for policy reasons. McCain is creepy, but worse, he is so clearly all about himself that he closely resembles Clinton that way. And Rice lost a lot of my respect for failing to understand how unreliable and incompetent Israel had become under Olmert.
So my favorites are all down in the single digit part of this list, but we have a couple of years for that to change.
Thanks for narrowing it down as to what I am "wrong" about.
Well, when there are so few true Conservatives left in the GOP, what do you expect? George Allen with his recent, stupid comment he should have known better than to have made, makes one wonder if he's ready for the "big-time" in '08. Newt's not likeable, even amongst Conservatives, on a personal level. And, Mike Pence alienated a lot of Conservatives with his proposed immigration "policy".
Now, realistically, could you see Sam Brownback even having a chance against the likes of Hillary Clinton or Al Gore, whom I think will be the eventual Dem nominee?
I like Tom Tancredo but there has not been a Congressman elected Prez since Garfield in 1880.
There aren't any "electable" Conservatives left. Lord, I miss Ronnie Reagan.
Yes!!
Isn't Pew a liberal "thinktank"?
EDxactly! A true conservative will never so this.
Very much.
You didn't address this to me but may I respectfully respond?
Rudy nor John M. is my choice. I will vote for someone else in the primaries but, if either of them wins the Republican nomination, I will vote for whomever it is. I will not cast a vote for a democrat or a 3rd party candidate.
What will you do in this situation?
I cannot make that promise. That would be a recipe for disaster if we all cave in now and say we will support "whoever the nominee is" because the nominee could actually be worse than Hillary Clinton, just having a (R) next to their name doesn't make them acceptable. So the answer is no.
That just about sums it up! Some of these Giuliani and McCain types think the Religious Right is only 5% of the GOP. Are they in for a surprise!! LOL!
The so called conservatives must come up with a compelling, powerhouse candidate to have any chance at being elected. So far, there is no conservative with a rat's chance of being elected. 2008 is about getting ELECTED!!!
