Tree? What Tree?

Katherine Harris blamed the paltry turnout for a rally Thursday at Orlando Executive Airport on a last-minute location change caused by a falling tree.

Harris told reporters at the rally that it had to be changed from one hanger to another because a tree fell on the first hanger.

Not so, said an airport official.

“There was no tree that fell on a hanger,” said Todd Anderson, vice president for aviation development with Shelt Air, the company that operates the hanger.

Anderson said Harris’ campaign booked the hanger where the event was held two days in advance and the location was not changed.

Harris’ spokeswoman, Jennifer Marks, said the misinformation Harris gave to reporters was because “that was the information we were given by our political director,” Ryan Metzler.

Harris was struggling to explain why none of the political office holders on the “Honorary Endorsement & Host Committee” attended the event.

Among the no-shows were: Sen. Mel Martinez, Lt. Gov. Toni Jennings, Orlando-area congressmen John Mica, Ric Keller and Tom Feeney, state Sen. Carey Baker and state Reps. David Simmons and Sheri McInvale.

About 40 people were at the event, including reporters and Harris campaign staffers.

Anyone who is subjected to all this hate speech knows that it's only the newspapers from the ultra far left municipalities that print this garbage. St. Peter, Palm Bitch, Mi-ass, etc.

Personally, I think KH has a pretty decent chance. Why else would these fishwrappers keep up this incessant hate campaign?

My vote? KH!!!

"She has mental problems and should quit and enjoy her money."

That's called projection, motorcycle boy. Katherine Harris should keep doing just what she's doing and you should re-think your one week membership here.

People talk about the dems getting 51. There is also the possibility of the R's getting 60. We do need to hold all of our own and win NJ,MD,MI,WA,MN. It is not likely but neither is the dems getting 51.

I think it is too early to bash liz dole now.

I have a very good friend that has known her for a long time (pre-2000) and he cannot stand her because of her arrogance, etc. that was apparent a long time ago. Shame some of you cannot see just how bad a candidate she is for the Florida Senate just because she did her job in 2000 but you can bet she did it because Jeb gave her some backbone. Even then she made some misstatements and didn't push for all military ballots to be counted. No one in their right mind goes through this many campaign aides.

She is arrogant, tempermental, won't listen, late, makes excuses that make no sense and the list goes on and on.

Its so sad that in Florida we own the Gov, Senate, House and most of the Congressional delegation and yet we can't seem to find a decent US Senate candidate to knock off this idiot who is so, so, so unworthy of being re-elected. Its such a freakin shame to allow a weak Dem incumbent to go basically unopposed.

How could this lady -- who seemed so cool and professional while the Democrats were chomping at her ankles during the Bush/Gore fiasco in Florida -- be the same lady we're watching in horror today?

In 2000 we saw Katherine Harris live.

Now we read MSM reports about her.

Think about it.

The campaign is a disaster. Harris was not ready for a Senate bid and has run one of the worst campaigns i've ever seen. She needs to get out of the race and save herself a tiny bit of dignity.

"When do people start calling for Elizabeth Dole to step down as chair of the Republican Senate Campaign Committee? She has recruited very few quality candidates."

A very good point. As someone from NC, i've never liked the woman. I see her as a carpet bagger who saw a seat she could win and came in to take it. She hadn't lived in the state for decades and her office does a poor job representing North Carolina. In terms of constituent services they are light years behind the old Helms office and trail Edwards by a good bit as well. And she hasn't been a very effective politician either.

Nice try but I won't buy that spin. The Harris campaign is a disaster. The media portrayal of it is not very far from the truth.

From the article: Harris’ spokeswoman, Jennifer Marks, said the misinformation Harris gave to reporters was because “that was the information we were given by our political director,” Ryan Metzler. "

If we are to believe that Harris is insane, then we must also believe that Jennifer Marks is insane, don't we? Marks is not claiming that Harris is the source of this false information. She is claiming that Metzler is the source of the false information.

Does anybody have any information on Metzler? Is he part of the Florida Republican establishment?

I pointed out on another Harris thread that the report contained an uncontradicted statement that a supporter of Harris, named Webster, had agreed to appear and then had changed his allegiance, failing to appear, and had not informed Harris.

This incident, and Metzler's lie (if that is what happened) are not explained by any lack of rationality on Harris part, unless it is that she has been too trusting of people who are not worthy of that trust.

What is your personal assessment of a senatorial campaign official bailing on his candidate within 90 days of a federal election? What is accomplished by a visible withdrawal of support at such a time and what justifies doing it?

I continue to believe that the Republican party is throwing their weight around big time right now to torpedo Harris. They have the cooperation of the media. And many Freepers are willing to read into these articles extremely negative assessments of Harris. But what about Webster? What explains his failing to inform Harris of his last minute change of allegiance? What of Metzler? He apparently is the one who supplied the lie.

This is twice now that I have seen evidence of reprehensible behavior on the part of people who owed a duty to Harris and who have failed to perform that duty. Is there no duty to inform a candidate that you will not appear as you had agreed? Is there not a duty to tell Harris the truth regarding any change of venue of a meeting?

Keep in mind that this is the same media that never would have heard of Monica Lewinsky if not for Drudge and the Internet. Keep in mind that this is the same media that continues to claim that the forged memos are perhaps "fake" but nevertheless "accurate". Keep in mind that this is the same media that has never reported the upcoming civil trial for which the Clintons will be deposed and at which the Clintons must either take the fifth, perjure themselves, or admit to election fraud.

She was the same, WE were different. Too happy with our result, and too eager to bestow hero status on a woman who did nothing more than her job.

One of the most honest asessments I've read on this forum for a long while.

How long did it take for this forum to finally realize that what the general public had finally reazlized about Pat Buchanan and Alan Keyes were actually true as time went by? Same for Ms. Harris.

Conservatives took a kook and lionized her.
