From the blog of Assemblyman Chuck DeVore's Blog
An Array of Interesting People...
Yesterday I had the honor of Vice Chairing the Assembly Committee on Veterans Affairs when it took up Assembly Joint Resolution 36 (AJR 36) by Assemblywoman Loni Hancock. Ms. Hancock holds the distinction of being the first female major of Berkeley. She also worked in the Carter and Clinton Administrations. AJR 36 was sponsored by Code Pink, a radical surrender group. More on them later.
The non-binding resolution has no force of law and therefore only sends a message. The message? California wants the return of its National Guard members from all overseas assignments, including the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as peacekeeping missions in the Balkans.
As Assemblywoman Hancock presented AJR 36, the hearing room was packed with mainly older ladies wearing pink shirts with messages such as No War (Im sure Hitler would have approved of such a message in March of 1945).
When I questioned Ms. Hancock on the impact of her bill the crowd booed and hissed multiple times (the worst violation of the rules of the Legislature I have ever seen that forced Veterans Committee Chairman Joe Nation to call for order). When I explained to Ms. Hancock that her symbolic measure served to give aid and comfort to our Islamofascist enemies; barbarians who think nothing of sawing the heads off innocents on video, the crowd went wild. One man in pink stood up and covered his ears with his hands and turned his back on me.
Ahhh yes, what passes for informed debate in California these days!
Shockingly, AJR 36 died on a 3 to 3 vote, with three Democrats not voting. Word is that the Democrat leadership did not want this divisive issue to come to a vote before the entire Assembly, serving to remind the public that the Democrats only plan in the face of horrific barbarism is unconditional surrender of America.
One last note: who is Code Pink? Code Pink has links with a variety of left wing groups that supported the old Soviet Union, Cuba, and Nicaragua (back when it was communist) against America and the West.
Why should we care that Code Pink finds common cause with the likes of Anarchist Resistance, United for Peace and Justice, the Workers World Party, and the International ANSWER (Act Now to Stop War and End Racism)? For one, these groups have a long history of having been for anything anti-American and pro-totalitarian.
The Workers World Party, representatives of which were at the hearing, defended the Soviet Unions attack on freedom in Hungary in the 1950s, Czechoslovakia in the 1960s and Poland in the 1980s.
United for Peace and Justice is an umbrella group that includes more than 100 leftist groups such as the Young Communist League and the Communist Party USA as well as Code Pink.
Medea Benjamin was the Code Pink leader who disputed Iraqi leader al-Malikis speech to the Congress a month ago. Benjamin was an organizer of the 1999 Seattle World Trade Organization riots. These riots caused millions of dollars in property damage. When Benjamin visited Cuba in the 1980s she said, It seem[ed] like I died and went to heaven.
This makes our victory yesterday all the more amazing.
All in a days work.
Score one for the good guys in Sacramento!
I dunno. I kind of like the idea of every Democrat in the Legislature on record siding with these kooks going into the November election.
Not at issue--one loss by the dems does not erase their long record of siding with the kooks.

Calcowgirl -- Chuck is a personal friend of mine and one of the finest men I know. I remember when he left industry and decided to run against Christy Cristich for the nomination. Do you have a personal connection?
I just went to his site! He has other great blog entries. Can't y'all recruit him to run against the Boxer or Botoxsi?
Quite a resume..........

No--no connection. I'm just a BIG fan!
I have this very strong attraction to common sense!
You can tell him he has groupies! LOL
(And I think it's pretty darn cool that he didn't know what Zinfandel was!)
There are many of his writings posted on FR, also. Good stuff!

WOW ... Thanks! We need to keep a close watch on him! He needs to be pushed up the ladder.
Except that it's California's native grape.
Chuck DeVore BumP
Hancock "represents" me in the Assembly. The shame, the horror. It might as well be Sheehan.
I've been telling Chuck to do that since 1998, when we met. The media would crucify him, of course, for his evangelical Christianity and his conservative views, but he is very telegenic and handsome and, well, swing voters are pretty flighty and whimsical -- they voted for Schwarzenegger, didn't they -- and he might pull it out. Can't speak for him but my guess is that he does have ambitions for higher office.
Nothing is more offensive to the ignorant than the truth.
Well, he's a right-wing evangelical Christian man just like me, totally devoted to his wife Diane and children. So he'll have to appreciate you groupies from afar.
Please keep encouraging him! The ENEMEDIA will crucify anyone that isn't a known commie or has a "D" after their name. Get the grassroots going! ;*)
Simple truth!
I think I have it figured out, but if I tell you..........
