The federal program that provides legal help to poor Americans turns away half of its applicants for lack of resources. But that hasn't stopped its executives from lavishing expensive meals, chauffeur-driven cars and foreign trips on themselves.

Agency documents obtained by The Associated Press detail the luxuries that executives of the Legal Services Corp. have given themselves with federal money from $14 "Death by Chocolate" desserts to $400 chauffeured rides to locations within cab distance of their offices.

The government-funded corporation also has a spacious headquarters in Washington's tony Georgetown district...

I suppose someone can find the delegated power in the Constitution to support this BS.

It's more than liberalism. It is all government at all levels wasting our money, raising our taxes and telling us they need more. it is the trips across the country and around the world by politicians and government workers that most likely are unnecessary in many cases. It is the fleets of gas guzzling cars the feds and the municipalities drive around on our dime all day while we get told to conserve. We are nothing more than an expense account to these puds.

Yep and when you try to reign them in the Junk Media, yes THAT ABC, gleefully regurgitates every lie from the Know Nothing Democrats about "Balancing the budget on the backs of the poor".

The chairman of the tax-writing Senate Finance Committee is threatening to withhold future money if the corporation doesn't trim its extravagance.

Here's a crazy idea: how about prosecuting them instead instead of just treating this an another deficiency in training? Fraud, misappropriation of federal funding, and grand larceny are felonies. Apparently, everybody in govt. forgot that.

It's the magic of "Grants." The more you have, the more you get.

"Washington's tony Georgetown district"....

The problem starts at the VERY CORE of government...with $40.00/sq ft real estate contracted by the General Services Administration ...where just a few miles away it could be less than half....

"It's more than liberalism."

A very true statement. We have a tendency to blame liberals for everything, but many of the conservatives we elect spend money just as foolishly. You don't have to look past the President for "Exhibit A."

Unfortunately, wasting taxpayer money crosses party lines and political philosophies.

Silly rabbit. The purpose of Government and Government programs is the proliferation of more Government and more Government programs. Land sakes, who ever got the absurd notion that Government is supposed to help people? Harumph!

It's more than liberalism. It is all government...

It goes beyond that into the private sector, too. How many CEOs have you seen auger a corporation into the ground and walk away with millions for their efforts? It's elitism, plain and simple.
