With a little bit of work, I'd support it. Like, I think, most Americans, I'm not on the anti-immigrant train.

Are you being obtuse on purpose, or are you just ignorant? Find me anyone who is "on the anti-immigrant train". You'd be hard-pressed to do so.
Most Americans are opposed to ILLEGAL immigration, and they are disgusted that it has been allowed to get so totally out of control! There is a difference.
These "most Americans" include rank & file Dhimmicrats - they are sitting this one out in favor of watching from the sidelines in the hopes that the Repubs will tear each other apart over the issue.
McInsane plays the "stand in the middle of the road" on this issue and this is one of the many reasons that I will actively support whatever candidate opposes him (for the Republican nomination).

Why does your comment not address illegal immigration? Too complex an issue?
