On another thread someone mentioned that amateurs study tactics while professionals study logistics. I can't help but wonder if some of that is what happened here -- Olmert not knowing anything about force sustainment in relation to what objectives are attainable. You can't attempt something like this without a comprehensive battle plan, and even then you have to get all your ducks in a row before executing it.
